The goals of this course are to prepare the student for three things.
- First and foremost, to provide you with the information and training to sit for and successfully complete the FAA Remote Pilot Exam.
- Second, to share the basic information for implementing and running a public safety UAS program in your organization.
- And lastly, provide you with some stick time flying a UAS similar to what you may use in your department.
Course Format
The class will consist of 5 days of study with each day lasting 8 hours.
• The first 3 days are in the classroom covering these topics:
o FAA Rules and Regulations
o The National Airspace System (NAS)
o Weather
o Loading and Performance
o Communication Procedures
o Emergency Procedures
o Aeronautical Decision Making
o Physiology
o Maintenance and Inspection Procedures
• During the course of each day, time will be devoted to reviewing questions from the exam
• The 4th day is a day of hands-on flight training utilizing aircraft similar to what you may use in your organization.
• The 5th day is applying the skills and knowledge learned to numerous training scenarios
Instructor
Ralph Newcomb is an experienced UAS remote pilot with a public safety background as well as an experienced instructor of UAS topics including the FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Prep Course. He is the owner and chief pilot of New Vistas Imaging. Additionally, he is the UAS FAASTeam representative and FAA Drone Pro out of the Greensboro FSDO and a licensed private pilot.
Ralph is passionate about public safety adoption of UAS technology and believes in safe, responsible UAS practices for the law enforcement, fire service, and emergency management communities.
